‍Associate User Researcher (San Mateo, CA)

Position Overview

‍The PlayStation Studios User Research Team is looking for an Associate User Researcher to execute player research in the interest of creating exceptional player experiences. The successful candidate will join our research team to work on PlayStation-exclusive games.

‍Responsibilities

‍The Associate User Researcher is an entry-level individual contributor responsible for executing research and analyzing findings under the close supervision of senior team members.

• Thoroughly review and demonstrate understanding of study goals, requirements, and plans.
• Execute plans to achieve study goals as defined by more senior researchers.
• Collect accurate data via survey, observation, interview, and telemetry.
• Moderate studies based on scripts provided by more senior researchers.
• Independently troubleshoot basic lab, technical, and process issues when conducting studies.
• Follow defined analytical methods with consistent quality.
• Draw meaningful conclusions from data.
• Contribute substantially to the reporting process using succinct, jargon-free language.
  

Qualifications

‍This opportunity would suit a self-motivated individual with a usability, user centered design, or human-computer interaction research background. The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate degree in an analytic field that focuses on people or product development such as Psychology, Cognitive Science, or Human Factors.

• Developing research methodologist, familiar with a variety of user research methods, such as expert review, usability testing, playtesting, survey design, text & verbal analysis, observational fieldwork, and statistical analysis.
• Strong communicator, able to effectively communicate findings derived from data.
• Growth mindset and ability to learn quickly from mistakes.
• Highly motivated to seek opportunities to improve quality of work and deepen knowledge.
• Passionate interest in video games across a wide variety of genres with a curiosity for understanding player motivations and behaviors.
  

Required Experience/Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, or related field.
  

Preferred Experience/Education

• Postgraduate degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, or related field.
• 1-2 years of practical experience developing study designs, testing, analyzing, reporting, and communicating findings in video games or an equivalent field.
