Location: For this role, we are open to remote work and can hire anywhere in North America.

About the Position:

Ceridian is looking for a self-starting, highly motivated Lead UX Researcher to help us establish our research practices and capabilities more formally, while retaining some measure of flexibility as we evolve.

Design at Ceridian is transforming from a legacy approach to “enterprise software” to a contemporary, user- and human-centered practice, recognizing that even HR and workforce management tools should look and work more like consumer software. Until now, we’ve had generalist Product Designers also conducting UX research. As part of our transformation, we’re establishing a research practice and dedicated research roles.

This is a remarkable opportunity for a motivated individual to help establish a UX research practice that produces actionable foundational insights and identifies new opportunities through rich discovery research, as well as helps us develop evolved evaluative practices, and leverage other types of data like analytics to tell holistic stories about our users.

This is not a quixotic effort. Ceridian has new leadership throughout product development that are hungry for the kinds of direction-informing insights that only good research can bring. So, while there will be challenges in getting strong research practices off the ground, this role has advocates in high places.

What You’ll Do:

  • Use evaluative and generative UX research practices to inform, lead, and support the creation of useful, usable, and desirable digital products across web and mobile
  • Take lead and conduct in-depth research programs (such as ethnography, field studies and mixed methods) that lead to deeper and farther reaching findings, insights, and new opportunities
  • Guide cross-functional team through the research and design process, incorporating them into data collection, analysis and the application of insights throughout the design process, and help them build their skills in the process
  • Tell stories that rally the cross-functional team and leadership team around human-centered opportunities
  • Consult and coach non-researchers on lean research and facilitation
  • Mentor more junior researchers and support research team efforts
  • Enable product managers, designers, engineers, and others to learn and apply research skills
  • Given the scarcity of research capacity, ruthlessly prioritize research effort on that which is truly important

The Profile We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience practicing complex UX research at scale, using methods such as diary studies, field research, remote research, moderated and unmoderated usability testing, and, only when actually necessary, surveys
  • Passionate advocate of putting our users (who aren’t necessarily the same as our paying customers) at the heart of the work, and able to do so without grating on others’ nerves
  • Success at bringing a range of people into the research process, including cross-functional partners (product managers, designers, developers, marketers), successfully engaging stakeholders and executives with findings and insights
  • Someone with stories that connects their research work to shipped product and services that made a positive impact
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, helping drive change through compelling stories drawn from research
  • Orderly and organized, able to manage and make sense of inbound requests, keeping track of numerous research efforts at various stages in their process
  • Eager mentor and capable educator, driven to spread methodological understanding throughout the broader team (no Ivory Tower here)

Ceridian is fueled by the diversity of our talented employees. We are an equal opportunity employer and consider and embrace ALL individuals and what makes them unique. We believe our employees should be happy and healthy, with peace of mind and a sense of fulfillment. We provide our employees with comprehensive benefits for various life circumstances and needs, great opportunities for career development, and a balanced lifestyle to achieve personal and professional success. We encourage all individuals to apply for positions that fit their passions.

We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in this position; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a Ceridian Recruiter with a @ceridian.com email directly from our organization.
