What We Do

Laika combines simple software with expert guidance to help SaaS companies manage security compliance, security audits, and enterprise procurement security diligence. Laika helps companies adopt stage-appropriate compliance practices that enterprises can trust and reduce the time and costs of security audits by 50% or more.

We are a rapidly expanding team based in New York. We were founded in May 2019 and have received investment from top investors including J.P. Morgan, PayPal Ventures, Canapi Ventures, and Bain Capital. We're growing customers and revenue dramatically and we are poised for continued break-out growth in 2022 and beyond.

About the Role

As Lead UX Researcher, you will be the core of our human-centered design practice as we elevate design at Laika. As our first research hire, you will work closely with our product and design teams to establish standards and define our research practice. You have a passion for learning, understand principles of product design, and how design thinking shapes a great customer experience. You will champion the voice of Laika’s customers, using empathy to influence our product strategy and inspire the team around them. You will help define our human-centered UX design process – engaging with product and design partners from discovery to validation, using a variety of methods that might include user interviews, field studies, prototype usability testing, surveys and participatory design.

The ideal candidate would be a UX research expert, knowing how to easily uncover user needs through studies, metrics, and customer feedback. You should have a deep understanding of industry UX research practices, and how to identify product opportunities to deliver experiences with measurable success. You will have experience as a research leader across an organization, educating teams about how to best collect and utilize customer insights. You are an effective and clear communicator, with the ability to tell a story while using data to support their decisions. Your process should be flexible with a bias for action, working closely with our product and engineering partners to establish efficiencies to focus effort where it matters most. You will understand and apply research findings by distilling information and clearly articulating actionable insights.

This role will be reporting directly to our Head of Design, and will partner with designers, product managers, and developers to bring our customers closer to our development process.

What You'll Do

  • Designs, facilitates and executes research to uncover pain points with our customers while validating usability of our products
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with product and design partners to deliver timely, key insights and actionable research findings
  • Establish an easily accessible and organized repository for research, data, and existing customer insights
  • Define research methodologies and best practices and ensures execution to these standards for all research across the org
  • Identify and implement training opportunities to evolve the skill set of the broader team
  • Understand the broader product customer journey and its relationship with the path to compliance, driving refinement and improvement
  • Create lightweight low-fidelity wireframes to support delivery of insights and visualize recommendations
  • Partner with product and customer experience teams to uncover customer insights, lead discussions, and influence strategy to help define and execute the product roadmap.
  • Be a systems thinker to strategize how your insights affect the broader product
  • Collaborate closely with design and product leadership to understand product
  • Actively evaluate the product and look for opportunities to unify and improve the user experience across the platform

Skillsets/ Requirements

  • 6+ years proven experience studying users of technology to improve solutions through data
  • Expertise in a wide range of remote and in-person research methods including but not limited to field studies, usability testing, surveys, focus groups, card sorting, A/B testing, and eye tracking
  • Experience executing customer journey maps & service design flows
  • Ability to prioritize and execute across multiple product areas in collaboration with a talented & diverse team of designers & product managers
  • Confidence in using data to tell a story to influence a variety of audiences & stakeholders to showcase the value of design
  • Experience with SaaS and familiarity with Agile development processes
  • Flexibility in process, considering appropriate methodologies based on timelines
  • Educate and train researchers, designers, product managers, to effectively structure usability tests, moderate, and conduct interviews
  • Expertise with industry standard research tools
  • Background working in an agile development environment
  • Competence with technology and ability to rapidly learn

  • The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $165,000 plus performance based compensation
