What will you do?

Working closely with our federal client, Bixal's cross-functional team leverages private sector best practices, innovative thinking, and centralized resources to deliver enterprise transformation at scale.

We’re looking for a Mid-Level UX Researcher to help the team understand the totality of a person’s experience with a system. The UX researcher is involved throughout the entire lifecycle of a project, conducts research with real users, gathering both qualitative and quantitative about how people think, feel, and behave. Then sharing these insights with the entire product team, and working closely with the content strategy lead and product owner helping everyone understand the target audience and define opportunities for research based on a product roadmap. The UX researcher plans and executes research activities, analyzes findings, ensures they are communicated to the whole team and ultimately, takes the guesswork out of the design process, making sure that the team has enough information to make data-informed product decisions.

The UX researcher is responsible for helping the team form an understanding of the unmet needs of all the actors in a system with generative research as well as validating solutions with participatory design and evaluative research.

Location:

This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote human-centered design through inclusive research.
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment, including chat and video conferencing collaboration.
  • Align user research activities with wider plans to inform a service proposition.
  • Collaborate with the team and align on learning goals.
  • Identify and propose a wide range of research activities based on the team’s learning goals, including stakeholder and user interviews, task analysis, information architecture, heuristic evaluation, observational studies, usability testing, etc.
  • Create generative research artifacts such as empathy maps, personas, storyboards, journey maps, experience maps, and service blueprints as needed.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, insights, implications, conceptual ideas, and design goals both verbally and visually.  
  • Work closely with strategists, designers, and implementation teams to ensure that customer goals are met.  
  • Research user needs as well as potential system enhancements.  
  • Plan, recruit, and facilitate the usability testing of new features.
  • Analyze and synthesize the results of usability testing to inform design decisions.  
  • Create and ensure research plans and artifacts are maintained and updated, including usability test plans, scripts, and findings.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in UX, product design, or commensurate work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Portfolio of experience that demonstrates previous work.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Nice to Haves:

  • Prior experience working with government clients/projects.
  • UX certifications (Nielsen Norman, Interaction Design Foundation, or other).
