Skyscanner is proud to be the world’s most trusted travel app and website. Here, our mission is to lead the global transformation to modern and sustainable travel and ensure a seamless experience for all those who want to explore the planet while protecting it.

At Skyscanner, our global presence offers scale and our inclusive work environment gives everyone the chance to make a real impact. Wherever you’ll join us, you’ll work alongside people who’ll inspire you to achieve your best while tackling some of the most exciting challenges within the travel sector.

Role Summary

We are now seeking a Principal User Researcher to join us and be part of our highly distributed global team.

Our User Research team exists to help our colleagues across the business understand our users, in order to inform our product, marketing and service development.

This is a 14month FTC role to cover a Maternity leave and represents an exciting opportunity and to add significant value to the business at a critical time.

Skyscanner is on this planet to help people get around it.  It’s already a world-changing service and we’re seeking talented and thoughtful professionals to define and execute against this grand vision. By joining us, you’ll be entrusted to do just that! We are dedicated to solving the travel needs of our friends, family, and the world. With users across more than 30 countries, our products have a truly global impact.

Do you love adding the why and the how to the what? Can you give quick compelling perspectives on problems as well as run longer term more generative research programmes? If you love gathering macro and micro insights and know how to operationalise them into actions, then this could be the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking ownership and responsibility for driving forward strategic research initiatives to inform company strategy
  • Proactively identifying and scoping research needs across product, design and marketing
  • Supporting and mentoring other members of the User Research team
  • Working closely with the Director of User Research to develop and mature our research capability
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across the business to ensure that research findings are interpreted and actioned effectively
  • This role will report to the Director of User Research

About You:

  • Previous job experience as a Principal/Senior User Researcher or equivalent, ideally within an internet economy business
  • Your track record evidences opportunities you have capitalised on, minimised threats and transformed businesses
  • You are evidence based and have knowledge of how to combine customer and business insight into themes for designers
  • You’re passionate and empathetic - you fall in love with problems, not solutions. You don’t burn out if things don’t go your way. You’re a doer, and a helper
  • With a global perspective, you reliably forecast future needs and devise plans to meet those needs
  • You can output quick iterations and still have the ability to work in a changing environment. You know the pit falls of just incrementalism. Show us grand thinking, and small actions that had impact

Travel means discovering new perspectives and experiencing diverse cultures. And we believe that travel is for everyone. We know that Skyscanner will be strongest when our team is both inclusive and diverse and we are committed to taking that journey together. We will recognise and challenge everyday biases, remove obstacles to inclusion and ensure that all of our people can thrive as their authentic selves
