The Role

We’re looking for an experienced UX Researcher with a focus on qualitative methods to join our User Experience team. Boomi is poised for exponential scale and growth in 2022, and this role is an addition to the User Experience Organization, which sits at the core of the Company’s growth strategy.

We want someone who takes initiative, as well as feedback. In addition to working under the guidance of the Head of UX Research Strategy and Operations, you’ll be working side-by-side with UX Design peers to sometimes drive, and sometimes support the research activities they perform. We’re a fluid, collaborative product team: you’ll also be working closely with Engineers, Product Content creators, Program Managers, and Product Owners. Additionally, you’ll be establishing relationships with the users of our platform: both internal users, and external customers.

We are currently a fully-remote company, due to COVID-19, and will remain a remote-friendly company once we can safely return to site. We are headquartered in Chesterbrook, PA, and have product teams that were colocated, in Philadelphia PA, Cambridge MA, and Exeter UK offices — when it’s safe to do so, occasional travel will be required (<10% travel). This role reports to the Senior Manager of User Experience Research.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Advocating UX Research best practices and processes to support our team’s success
  • Exhibiting broad knowledge of qualitative research methods and how / when to apply them
  • Learning complex technological concepts, and then communicating them in plain language
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement, and validating their impact through discovery and research methods
  • Creating and running research activities, such as usability studies and interviews
  • Analyzing the outcomes of research activities and making recommendations based on your findings
  • Presenting findings to internal stakeholders, such as Product Managers and the Executive Leadership
  • Contributing to the development of user personas and use cases
  • Collaborating and communicating across teams and roles
  • Demonstrating aptitude, if not experience, to think both conceptually and pragmatically about product strategy to ensure that Boomi remains an industry leader

Required Skills:

  • A growth mindset, insatiable curiosity, empathy, and a clearly-articulated design philosophy
  • Ability to operate nimbly as a research consultant to multiple product teams, and comfortable conducting research activities outside of a lab
  • A broad skill set of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and professional experience applying them in product development and/or complex business systems and applications
  • Experience planning and conducting moderated UX Research methods in a remote or in person environment
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills, evidenced in examples of your work (e.g., a portfolio, website, or dropbox of case studies and outcomes)
  • Alignment with our team's Core Values

Preferred Skills

  • Experience facilitating design workshops and remote activities, and a willingness to recruit internal participants
  • The desire to collaborate, with the ability to operate with minimal oversight
  • A commitment to excellence over perfection — details matter, but so does being nimble
  • The ability to provide and accept constructive criticism in a timely and direct manner — Radical Candor is our team’s feedback framework
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 guidelines, and a value for designing inclusively
  • Strong business acumen
  • Involvement in the UX community
  • Visual thinker with an affinity for the whiteboard
  • Familiarity with collaborative and rapid prototyping tools (e.g., Miro, Optimal Workshop)
  • Ability and interest in occasional travel spanning 2-5 days (<10% travel)

Core Team Values

  • Be Scrappy: Commit to doing your best with the time and resources available; be nimble, lean, and flexible.
  • Collaborate Respectfully: Provide a safe space for the exchange of ideas and feedback; communicate clearly and candidly; engage in active listening.
  • Demonstrate Open-minded Curiosity: Ask questions, try new things, and recognize that there is always more to learn.
  • Give a Damn: Demonstrate your passion for the work, the Content and UX communities, and helping others grow; challenge respectfully, but directly
  • Take Ownership: Show accountability by taking responsibility for your work and actions; show leadership by looking out for others.
