Visit: group.springernature.com and follow @SpringerNatureWe’re looking for a UX Researcher in Berlin (Germany) or Lisbon (Portugal) to join our growing UX Research team.The Research team is mainly based in London; our mission is to elevate the research discipline in our organization and improve research operations capability to enable research and deliver actionable insights that will inform various phases of product development.

You’ll be part of the global UXD practice at Springer Nature and you’ll work with colleagues around the world, especially London and Berlin.

The job is currently remote. As we return to the office there will be a chance to work from home several days a week. If you currently live somewhere else but have the desire of relocating either in Lisbon or Berlin, please talk to us and we’ll figure out how to best support you.

Why we need youWe work for an audience of millions of researchers across the world and offer a portfolio of products and services covering all aspects of publishing.

We need to establish a more user-focused way of delivering our services and creating user experience goals that will achieve our business strategy. In order to do so we are creating special teams called Customer Experience Groups. The aim of these teams is to analyze the end to end experience, socialize the obstacles to achieving the user goals, define key opportunities, and collaborate with other teams to define a strategy that will not only serve the needs of our users with an excellent end to end experience but also align and unite all the areas responsible for delivering it.

About You

You’ll join one of our new Customer Experience Groups. We need someone that can use above all their analytical thinking, planning skills, stakeholder engagement skills, to create a research strategy that will help us make decisions on existing products and formulate new strategic decisions.

You are a Senior User Researcher with multiple years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research. You have experience in researching the different stages of product development and you are always willing to try out new approaches to share and apply the findings of your research.You are able to conduct research and produce insights in English. You can communicate your research in a way that it’s easy for stakeholders to understand how to act on the findings. You have experience working with remote teams and you always do your best to involve stakeholders and team members from other countries in your research activities. You have experience working with marketing, sales, customer service teams and product development teams to align on market needs and share research insights to turn into actions.

What you will be doingWithin 3 months

You will start building an understanding of the different users and their behaviours with our products and services. Additionally, you will start familiarizing with our industry and domain.

  • Absorb the research that has been done in the past to get yourself familiar with our users, their behaviours and their needs
  • Start having a broader understanding of the publishing trends and markets
  • STM trends will be familiar to you
  • Become familiar with our Research Operations process and tools
  • Start contributing to make our Research Operations more efficient
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and people that are directly or indirectly involved in the research you’ll plan
  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify priorities and areas worth exploring
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, the CEG team and the research team, identify gaps and potential opportunities
  • Design a research strategy that fits the business strategy
  • Plan and conduct research needed involving and mentoring, when needed, UX designers and stakeholders. You’ll share best practices with them and bring them along the research journey with you.
  • Build relationship with teams that might have data you can use to triangulate your findings e.g customer service team, market intelligence team
  • Support the Head of UX Research in ensuring the best quality research is conducted following best practices and ways of working

Within 3 - 12 months

  • Utilise both existing and ongoing research to agree with your team and stakeholders a list of priorities that should be considered for the research strategy.
  • Use other data available (market research, analytics, customer service team insights) to shape the most appropriate user research that will offer deeper insights into how our researchers are using the vast and complex landscape of services to achieve their goals
  • Design and socialize the research strategy
  • Plan and conduct generative research
  • Support building domain knowledge through engagement and regular communication at all levels and considering your different audiences.
  • Involve the research team and the head of UX research in the research strategy phase
  • Support your team to identify opportunities, UX outcomes and success measures in addition to providing research insights. This is to make sure the research is actionable and usable by the product teams.

Beyond 12 months

  • You will have conducted and communicated the insights of your first pieces of research
  • You will keep observing the market and its trends to recommend our business how to improve our offer and add value to our product and services
  • You will mentor, or coach, our colleagues that will participate in research activities with you.
  • You will proactively promote your role within our department.
  • You will find ways to improve the research activities in order to have a more efficient approach to research.
  • You will have supported the Research Team at shaping a culture of sharing actionable and clear findings to make research accessible and relevant for our business.
  • Contribute to community training run by the UX Research team

Daily LifeYou will need to be autonomous and proactive: you’ll self-organise and prioritise research tasks

You Will

  • Prioritise research activities that can be useful at a cross-domain level and work with relevant product teams where applicable.
  • Work with UX Designers on product teams to translate teams’ questions into research activities when needed
  • Collaborate with Market intelligence team and Analytics
  • In collaboration with the Research Ops team you will continuously identify how to improve the current processes, tools, methods and mindsets in order to run, share and conduct research more efficiently and effectively.
  • Work with our Research lead to create and keep updated a panel of users.
  • Recruit, organise, plan, and run workshops, studies and research activities.
  • Apply relevant research methods depending on the project schedules and deadlines.
  • Build in time to learn new techniques and evaluative methods.
  • Motivate and involve the team members in research activities.
  • Share findings within the project, programme, and design team.
  • Keep teams and communities up-to-date on the research activities within the domain. e.g. through our company intranet, regular ‘stand-up’ meetings with the Research team and ‘sharebacks’ of findings from your research.
  • Make sure that your remote colleagues are informed, involved and part of your daily routine.
  • Work closely with our Research Lead in London to shape the future of our research.
  • Collaborate with other departments to validate design hypotheses about user behaviours and attitudes.
  • Collaborate on concept and design work with product teams when necessary.
