What You’ll Do

User Experience Researcher

Discovery Education is seeking a User Experience (UX) researcher to work with the Senior (UX) researcher assisting the Product Design team in understanding ways to ensure that The Discovery Education Experience (DE.X) feels intuitive, fun, accessible, and engaging. The primary role is to plan, moderate, and summarize qualitative studies under the guidance of the Senior UXR to create user empathy and guide iterative development of our award-winning suite of blended learning K-12 products.

The ideal candidate is well versed in UX research methodologies and knowledge of mixed-method approached to address the research questions being asked. Working closely with the Senior UX researcher, you will collaborate with product managers, designers and the larger research organization to ensure a product’s success.

Primary method of research will be task-based usability studies performed during the design and development stages against prototypes that range in fidelity as well as baseline testing on the current product suite. Additionally, there are opportunities for user interviews; contextual inquiries; heuristic evaluations; longitudinal studies; and quant/qual collaboration with the broader Research Team.

Who You Are

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years experience conducting research for digital SaaS products.
  • Experience supporting UX Design and SaaS Product Development through research.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to clearly summarize research and findings.
  • Strong work ethic driven by a sense of urgency, organization skills, and ability to inspire others to act and fulfill Discovery Education’s mission.
  • Research for children as well as adults a plus!
  • Education background or experience a bonus!
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree’s preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Always willing to learn something new, not rigid in beliefs or expectations.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to understand, accept and engage with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • A sense of humor because we all need to laugh sometimes.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.


In collaboration with the Senior UXR…

  • Plan, manage and conduct user research using a variety of methods including usability (task-based) studies; focus groups; user interviews; surveys; contextual inquiries; heuristic evaluations; etc.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of user personas and journeys
  • Partner with the Research team to adhere to best practices and incorporate other data points in overall research
  • Create empathy by synthesizing and socializing findings to guide Product Managers, Developers, and Designers with actionable recommendations
  • Work closely with the Research and Product Management teams identify research topics; manage a backlog of research; and prioritize studies
  • Participate in recruitment activities for user research by partnering with client-facing departments
  • Plan and implement the overall user research strategy and methods
  • Our product serves multiple personas including administrators, educators, students, and parents. Research with students comes with its own set of challenges so experience in this area is a strong plus.
