Your challenge

We are looking for a User Experience Researcher to help us better understand the people who use our software, drive product innovation, and iteratively improve our designs. User research is important to us because the easier it is for security professionals to use our product, the more likely it is that they will be able to make critical security decisions that protect the computers of the world from global threats. The challenge is that security data can be a hard thing for many businesses to manage. That’s where our product, SecureX, comes in. SecureX is an Extended Detection & Response (XDR) solution that connects data from across our Cisco Secure portfolio so that our users can view all their security data in one place and respond efficiently. As a researcher working on XDR, you’ll be part of the team that simplifies security data and makes it easier to respond to.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll need to be collaborative, curious, and excited to make a meaningful difference in the world by making the complexities of digital security simple for our users. You are ready to dive into the world of cybersecurity, talk to our users, and ask lots of questions about the environment they work in. Of course, you are passionate about delivering actionable research results that resonate with product managers, designers, engineers, and leadership. Most importantly, you are a leader and a teacher, and you know that the best way to get those results implemented is to invite stakeholders to participate in the research process from planning to presentation and beyond.

The impact you’ll have includes:

  • Guiding our team’s understanding of our users by conducting user research and creating artefacts like research reports, journey maps, and personas.
  • Teaching and mentoring designers and product managers about user research skills and design thinking methods.
  • Informing strategic product decisions through generative methods, secondary research, and competitive evaluations.
  • Supporting a growing research operations function that makes our work more efficient.

Here’s an idea of what your first year might look like:

  • Your first 30 days: you’ll be focusing on onboarding, forging relationships with key team members, learning the basics of cybersecurity, and shadowing other researchers to learn the process.
  • Your first three months: you’ll have completed your first study or two, with the support of the UX team whenever you need it. You’ll also begin contributing to our processes and operations.
  • Your first year: you’ll be used to seeing the impact of your work every day when you log in to our products. You’ll also be working on foundational strategic research that informs new features and cross-product initiatives.

The experience you’ll need to succeed:

  • 6+ years leading qualitative research projects from end to end: discovery, planning, recruitment, execution, analysis, presentation, and guidance through implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key partners to capture assumptions, prioritize research topics, and identify strategic business needs. This could look like facilitating workshops or running design sprints remotely (we use Miro)
  • Great teamwork skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Confidence with a variety of research methods, with a focus on qualitative methods like in-depth interviews, contextual inquiry, and ethnographic field work
  • Communicating findings and recommendations in a clear, jargon-free, and engaging format. Bonus if you have experience modeling non-linear technical workflows
  • Comfort managing multiple projects, including logistics and recruiting
  • Desire to contribute to a growing research operations function
  • Desire to solve complex problems
  • Bonus if you have experience in technical B2B user research and/or cybersecurity

If this role sounds exciting to you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet 100% of the description or qualifications.
