Do you dream of creating products that have a positive impact on a global scale? Are you looking to join a high-performing team where your impact will be felt immediately? Do you want to do something about climate change?

At Oracle Utilities/Opower, we use computer, data, and behavioral science to influence millions of emissions-reducing utility customer actions every day. We are passionate about helping utilities and their customers move toward an equitable clean energy future. We save as much energy as the Hoover Dam generates, and we are working to do even more.

We are seeking a talented and motivated UX writer to join our User Experience team. In this role, you’ll be ensuring a smooth and successful user experience via useful, concise copy that guides the user in the right direction and helps them complete their desired actions. You will be writing for Opower’s digital and print channels, reaching millions of people across the globe, and supporting our utility clients in meeting and hopefully exceeding their goals in energy efficiency and decarbonization.

If making a positive impact on the world is important to you, and you identify with the qualities we’ve described here, we’d love to speak with you.

  • Write for Oracle Utilities and Opower solutions, providing strategic direction and content design across multiple products and channels.
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, product and marketing managers, and engineers.
  • Educate cross-functional partners on the role of UX writing and strategy throughout the product design process.
  • Learn about the needs of utility users and their customers; use straight-forward language to make their interactions with our products more productive and valuable.
  • Support usability testing and iterate based on feedback.
  • Work with other content strategists and UX writers to evolve existing guidelines and best practices.
  • Document your strategy and rationale, partnering with designers, researchers, and knowledge management to create and maintain guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to collaborate and work independently within design and writing tools (Figma, Miro, etc)
  • Experience using UX methods to map user flows, define user attributes and describe contextual constraints and opportunities
  • Experience working with Jira and Confluence tools
  • Experience writing UX copy for both enterprise and consumer products

About you

  • Do you have a bachelor’s degree (or higher) and 3+ years working experience.
  • Experience collaborating with designers, researchers, product managers, marketing leads and engineers while influencing and adapting to stakeholders and their feedback.
  • Extensive experience working closely with designers and user research to create simple and user-centered experiences.
  • Experience testing and researching how the language you use resonates with users; have work samples showing your use of data in establishing and evolving your process and work product.
  • Experience presenting your work to stakeholders, peers and leaders.
  • Superb attention to detail, as well as creative and analytical mindset.

Work samples

Please include samples of content you've created. For example, you may wish to show marketing materials, email campaigns, style guides—anything that highlights your ability to persuade your audience and simplify information.
