About the job

The role


As a User Researcher, you would be part of the User-Centred Design service, alongside our growing team of Content, Interaction Designers, and User Researchers. You’ll work closely with them to up-skill and share your expertise as a UCD consultant.


As a consultant, you’ll carry out research to identify user needs and business goals. You’ll also assess how well existing services meet people’s needs. Your key role is to carry out research, involve your team and stakeholders in the process and share findings in an engaging and collaborative way. You’ll work with specialists like Content Designers, Interaction Designers, Developers, Business Analysts, and Technical Architects, often as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Skills we’re looking for:


Research skills

  • plan research approaches
  • produce the required documentation and materials for research activity, including discussion guides and consent forms
  • recruit participants in line with GDPR and MRS guidelines
  • use a range of research methods: interviews, surveys, workshops, focus groups, shadowing, diary studies, usability testing, diary studies, eye tracking, A/B testing, analytics
  • conduct analysis to identify key themes, user needs, business needs, and personas
  • produce user research deliverables like personas and journey maps
  • make sure your research is inclusive and includes people with disabilities and those who need support to use digital services


Stakeholder management

  • build relationships with clients
  • persuade stakeholders of the importance of research to a project


Teamwork

  • work in a multidisciplinary team
  • encourage teammates to shadow and take part in research


Delivery focus

  • understand Agile processes
  • work comfortably in a dynamic and evolving environment


Qualities we’re looking for:


As a consultant, you’re:

  • naturally curious and able to champion your own learning and development
  • an advocate for user-centered design
  • respectful and tactful in your approach to clients who perhaps aren’t as familiar with user-centered design
  • proactive and will take the initiative rather than to see a problem and ignore it
  • keen to share your knowledge and experience
