NCVO is transforming the way it works. With a new strategic direction and leadership team, we are determined to work with our members so that charities and volunteering can thrive. As the country recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic and renews itself, charities and volunteering aren’t just vital support systems for communities in need – they’re at the heart of how people want to lead their lives.

Digital is an essential part of how we support our members and the wider voluntary sector. It’s central to how we give organisations practical guidance to help them solve problems, improve practices, make the most of opportunities as well as to work safely and comply with the law. It’s how we amplify our members’ voices and experiences and champion their work.

As our user researcher, you’ll lead a range of research activities to help us understand what our users need and how they behave when using our digital products and services. You’ll use this insight to help the digital content and development teams plan, monitor and optimise content and services used by 1million+ people each year.

You’ll champion agile service design, making sure our decisions are based on evidence. You’ll be a strong advocate for users, helping others understand user needs and how we can best meet them. You’ll be interested in equity, diversity and inclusion, helping us build an understanding of inclusive research practices and how to design accessible services that work for all users.

You’ll work with colleagues to ensure campaign plans and product roadmaps consider best practice in user experience, and help to embed a culture of testing, learning and improving across everything we do. You’ll work closely with product and content owners, as well as key marketing and communications colleagues, to translate objectives into actionable and measurable plans. You’ll understand how to set meaningful KPIs, implement measurement frameworks and run post-campaign analyses, providing recommendations for optimisation and improvement based on data and user insights.

This role is instrumental in developing our capacity to deliver user-focused content and services. It’s a fantastic challenge at a time of considerable change for us - you’ll be excited by this and positive about driving best practice in user experience design. You’ll be motivated to contribute to an inclusive and aspirational digital strategy, along with standards and processes that help us work effectively with colleagues to develop digital experiences that reach the people that need them.

You’ll be an experienced researcher with knowledge of best practice in gathering and analysing quantitative and qualitative data. You’ll understand how to use data to shape decisions and improve outcomes. You’ll enjoy working collaboratively, be generous with your knowledge and skilled at supporting and developing others. You’ll be comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams with technical colleagues, and experienced at maintaining positive relationships using exceptional communication, influencing and problem-solving skills.

Trusted by staff at all levels, and from all backgrounds, you will contribute to developing a new collaborative and inclusive culture. Like many organisations, at present, that includes being able to work and manage your workload remotely.

Closing date: 9am 15 September 2021

Interviews: 28-29 September 2021

NCVO is fully committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in our sector. We want this to be reflected in the diversity of the people who work for us and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and identities. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as BAME and disabled people are currently under-represented in NCVO. As part of our commitment to employing disabled people, all disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirement for all competencies on the person specification, will be guaranteed an interview.
