About this Role

At the IPO, as a Senior User Researcher, you will be an key member of the user research team, working at the forefront of our digital Transformation program. You will work alongside our Strategic Delivery Partner to deliver radical changes to our services that meet the needs of our customers and our colleagues.

You will have experience of practical user research and an understanding of different methodologies. You will be able to plan, lead and execute user research activities in your allocated project and be able to collaborate across projects and professions when needed.

As a Lead User Researcher, you will be a senior member of the user research team, working at the forefront of our digital Transformation program. You will work alongside our Strategic Delivery Partner to deliver radical changes to our services that meet the needs of our customers and our colleagues.

You will be an experienced practitioner who is able to plan, lead and execute user research activities in larger teams and on more complex services.

Job Description - Lower Grade Senior User Researcher:

  • At this level, you will be expected to:
  • Plan and deliver user research to support your allocated project
  • Support and champion user-centred practices in teams to ensure that teams take a user-centred approach to service design and delivery
  • Work with others to align user research activities with wider plans to inform a service proposition
  • Line manage, mentor, coach, and train B1/B2 User Researchers
  • Be proactive in user research planning – define research objectives, methodology, sampling approach and give recommendations, ensuring that the needs of all users are considered in design and delivery
  • Be confident to apply user research methods in practise and seek support and advice from colleagues on choice of methods where required to increase your user research toolkit
  • Support the development and promotion of research strategies to understand user needs for a service, and continually test and improve the service
  • Present findings that inform wider decisions to key internal and external stakeholders and support at departmental service assessments
  • Contribute to the user research community across government

Job Description - Higher Grade Lead User Researcher:

  • At this level, you will be expected to:
  • Plan and deliver user research to support your allocated project(s)
  • Build user-centred practices in new teams to ensure that teams take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to service design and delivery
  • Align user research activities with wider plans to inform a service proposition
  • Supervise and develop other user researchers to assure and improve research practice
  • Line manage, mentor, coach, and train B3/HEO Senior User Researchers
  • Lead user research planning – define research objectives, methodology, sampling approach and give authoritative recommendations, ensuring that the needs of all users are considered in design and delivery
  • Apply a range of user research methods in practise and support and advise colleagues on choice of methods
  • Lead the development and promotion of research strategies to understand user needs for a service, and continually test and improve the service
  • Present findings that inform wider decisions to key internal and external stakeholders and at government service assessments
  • Contribute to the user research community across government

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working as a user researcher in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Experience of delivery of user research in change projects and ensuring service development is user-centred

Working Style & Pattern

The role will be based at Newport or London, however informal hybrid working arrangements will be available and the balance between workplace and homeworking is to be agreed with the line manager.

Currently is it anticipated attendance in the office will be very occasionally required depending on wider team meetings and events that require face to face attendance. Occasional travel to other UK locations may also be required.

There is no requirement to live locally to either the Newport or London offices. We would strongly encourage candidates to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process.

Salary: £30,769 - £47,963

Maximum salary amount includes Allowances of up to £5,741. London weighting of £3800 may be applicable if living and working in London. Final salary package will be dependent on skills, experience and grade of role.
