As we continue to challenge the investment world, Nutmeg is moving on to the next stage of its journey to help our clients achieve their financial goals. We were acquired by J.P. Morgan in 2021 which has given us the ability to grow rapidly. Customer centricity is highly valued at Nutmeg, however, formal research is still in its infancy. We are looking for a talented and experienced user researcher to join our design team.There is a lot of appetite for research in the business, to inform both strategy, and the execution of our products and services. Research lives within our design team, and works closely with Product and Marketing, as well as other business stakeholders.The design team is a group of passionate, talented, and creative people who are motivated to build the gold-standard of simplicity in investing using the latest technology. We have backgrounds in product and software development, design, architecture, research, music, and consulting and love a good debate about what is best for our clients’ long term financial future. There is a strong ethos of learning first hand from our clients, a curiosity to push boundaries, to explore both qualitative and quantitative data, and experiment.Nutmeg has a very flat organisational structure and ethos, giving you the opportunity to work closely with both the executive management team and all areas of the business to help drive innovation and genuinely valuable client experiences.You will help us scale and improve our approach to research, to suggest different methodologies to achieve the client understanding we need, and to enhance our decision making through research.You are someone that is excited about variety, working across an array of different challenges, whether it’s product or proposition strategy, or the fine detail of user journeys, evaluating prototype experiences or improving existing ones.You will have the ability to scope and run your own projects, but will have the input, coaching and feedback from our Lead researcher & Head of design when needed.


  • Design and conduct research projects and activities; defining research objectives, analysing results, and prioritising outcomes in line with what is best for our clients and our business goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Product and Marketing teams to influence both strategy and execution.
  • Work closely with our UX designers to plan future products or improve the experience of existing products and services.
  • Help us evolve how we share and manage research internally, to help us develop the profile and reputation of research.
  • Help run our customer closeness program ‘Chat with Nutmeg’ (fortnightly, fast 25-minute interviews with Nutmeg clients).
  • Help shape the strategy for research at Nutmeg, working directly with our Lead researcher and Head of design.


Your skills:

We are looking for an experienced UX researcher to expand our understanding of our clients’ needs through qualitative and quantitative research efforts across all our live and pipeline projects, working with designers, product managers, and other key stakeholders.We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes.

  • A passion for creating an understanding and empathy for people’s needs and a strong can-do attitude to drive change.
  • You should have some formal education in Human-Computer Interaction, Research Methodologies, Cognitive Science, Information Science, or a related research based field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands on experience in a wide range of exploratory and evaluative research methods, including in-depth ethnographic interviews, contextual inquiry, diary studies, surveys, and usability testing.
  • The ability to synthesize research data into actionable insights and principles to guide the work of designers, product managers, senior management, and marketing.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, to articulate and persuade stakeholders with the findings you have uncovered from research.
  • The desire and ability to engage team members from across the organisation to participate in research activities, and to employ those skills themselves on their own projects.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • An approachable and friendly manner and enjoys working with a team.
  • A self-motivated person who thrives with a good degree of ownership.
