Southampton, Store Support Office

We believe anyone can improve their home to make life better. From our Southampton Store Support office (SSO) we equip our stores, our people, and our whole business with everything it takes to help our millions of customers create a home they’ll love. Join us as UX Research Specialist and you’ll be a big part of this.

What's the job?

As a B&Q UX Research Specialist, you will use your curiosity, empathy and interpretive skills in the delivery of research solutions for a number of digital services, products and features. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of research, identifying key insights that will be used to inform the design and strategic direction. With a wide and interesting remit, there is the opportunity to work on propositions, services and products from conception through to feature and component delivery.

You will be a part of a multi-disciplined team, working particularly closely with designers and product owners to support them in identifying a need for and in understating the output of research, in order to deliver innovative and high crafted experiences to our customers.

  • Identifying when research would be valuable, setting objectives, and advising what methodology would be most appropriate for the needs of the project
  • Translate observations into digestible, valuable, actionable insights
  • Participate in knowledge sharing between research team members, drive consolidation of insights and building of a shared knowledge bank
  • Synthesising existing research from a variety of sources, for clear next steps and new lines of enquiry
  • Suggest new research areas where richer insight about trends and behaviours could be valuable
  • Are the gatekeeper of the products you and your team work on, and accountable for the experience / design and how it relates research findings

What we need:

  • A recognised degree qualification in design, psychology, HCI, market research or similar
  • Comfortable in customer-facing interview scenarios
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking to identify what’s important and prioritise recommendations, supporting the design lead and product owners to prioritise design work and backlog
  • Ability to turn preliminary feedback around quickly, with deeper-dive insights as a follow-up
  • A strong storyteller and presenter, keen to represent your own thinking
  • Challenge established perspectives and approaches with sound insights backed up by factual examples
  • Support through the design process, collaborating with designers, helping them to resonate with identified customer problems and needs
  • Participate in and contribute to design critiques and post project reviews
  • Strong planning, organisation and documentation skills

What's in it for me?

As well as a competitive salary, our benefits package includes an award-winning pension scheme, bonus, ShareSave options, 6.6 weeks holiday, payroll giving, an Employee Assistance Programme, shopping discounts, colleague wellbeing benefits and lots more!

As part of a great team, you’ll be supported to grow and encouraged to explore new career directions within the business and the wider group. And, because you’ll be inspiring great things for our customers and the whole business, you’ll do work worth caring about.
