About the role

Our Customer Experience team is designing for the global diversity of human needs, which requires us to deeply understand the behaviours of the people behind them. Our researchers tackle everything from the simple user tasks to complex multi-product challenges to gain deeper insights into how people interact with all bark products. We use a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods to accomplish our goals, including surveys, focus groups, field studies, usability tests, competitive analysis, and 1:1 interviews. We value a diverse range of perspectives and stem from many different backgrounds.

We’re looking for an excellent communicator who is knowledgeable about research devoted to understanding people, and curious about the relationship between technology and society. They will also need to be comfortable in a fast-moving organisation, open-minded about learning new research methods, committed to high-quality and rigorous research, and focused on influencing the future of Bark.


  • Facilitate and conduct contextual inquiries to acquire qualitative ethnographic research data.
  • Work with team leads to generate hypotheses and identify opportunities tied directly to research data.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, product managers, designers, researchers, and developers to create UX enhancements and translate market and user research into requirements.
  • Identify areas of opportunity and generate solutions to enhance the user experience.
  • Develops personas based on user research data.
  • Conducts industry and market research.
  • Conducts competitive analysis for industry related products and services.
  • Conducts usability studies and tests with the use of prototypes.
  • Analyzes products and services offered by both Bark and competitors through heuristic evaluation.
  • Stays up-to-date on research methods and emerging trends.
  • Assist in conducting meetings and presentations to report user research findings and action plans.

Minimum qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience designing simple, intuitive, and modern web experiences.
  • Experience with in-person research.
  • Experience working with small to very large sample sizes.
  • Experience in a variety of design tools and systems; Figma, Miro, etc.
  • Strong user research, visual design, and prototyping skills.
  • An outstanding portfolio with examples of your work, process, and results.
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Journalism, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to clearly communicate a design through storytelling that helps the audience develop empathy for the user, and clarity on what the user experience of the software will be.
  • Ability to think critically through complicated design systems and challenge existing constraints.
  • Experience designing across multiple platforms, and working with technical/design teams to create user flows, wireframes, and building user interface mockups and prototypes.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in B2B, B2C, and/or B2B2C environments.
  • An online portfolio of work, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centred design solutions and patterns, across both web and mobile experiences.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to present your ideas and drive influence at all levels of the organisation.
