What you’ll do

You will be responsible for driving the UX research for automotive clients, predominantly in the US. You are passionate about designing and executing user research and usability testing, sharing findings and recommendations and contributing to future car solutions. You naturally put user needs first, while taking automotive client’s requirements into account. You can present and share your work in a compelling and convincing way in front of key stakeholders. You have a strong will to create easy to use, delightful products. You love iterating UX designs together with designers to find the best possible user experience. You are a self-starter, able to work closely with project managers to identify UX research needs. You feel comfortable collaborating in and coordinating large international research projects. You’re proactive, and a great team player.

Some core activities include:

  • Align with key stakeholders in US and NL to proactively identify areas that need to be explored and drive the agenda.
  • Work closely together with automotive client teams and in-house product teams of UX Designers, Engineers, Architects and Product Management to discover, design and deliver new products, features and services.
  • Guide preparation of user test materials, such as prototypes and interview scripts.
  • Coordinate research activities, including recruitment of participants and organising test cars.
  • Distill new insights from the user research and come up with practical improvements.
  • Perform expert (usability) reviews of product concepts and do literature research.
  • Organize workshops and design sprints to make user insights tangible.
  • Connect quantitative and qualitative user insights.
  • Find the best ways to convince stakeholders to act upon findings.
  • Think holistically about the end-to-end TomTom experience and inspire others to do so.

What you’ll need:

To be successful as a Senior UX Researcher, this is the kind of profile we have in mind:

  • 3+ years of industry experience in user research.
  • An advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Ethnography, Industrial Design or related discipline.
  • In-depth experience with the whole package of qualitative and quantitative user research methods such as usability testing, contextual interviewing, observations, survey design…etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: present, align, communicate, collaborate, engage, convince…
  • A good understanding of statistics and analytics
  • Creative problem solver, team player, self-motivated and dedicated to excellence.
  • Solid time-management and prioritization skills with the ability to run simultaneous projects.
  • Pragmatism: balance research investment depending on user and/or business impact.
  • You are someone who draws inspiration and motivation from the company mission to solve tomorrow’s transportation challenges
  • Comfort working with geographically dispersed teams

We’re not looking for a unicorn, but if you have experience/ affinity with one (or more ) of the below you’ve definitely got our interest:

  • UX research for the automotive industry
  • Experience with working with teams in different timezones.
  • Experience with eye tracking research
