Research is a lean Product team, responsible for conducting and enabling UX research and market research across the company. Our team’s mission is to bring the user to the center of everything Yelp does. We aim to:

- Foster empathy for our users (consumers & business owners)Inform strategic decision-making, product planning, and marketing

- Track how well we’re doing against goals

- Gauge ROI for product improvements & innovation

The team is looking for a qualitative researcher to pioneer research and help develop innovative products and services. This role will have a large impact on shaping the future of product and market research at Yelp. While the Research team is concentrated in San Francisco, we’re looking for our first Toronto office hire. This person should be a self-starter with high personal accountability and enthusiasm to represent the function. When appropriate, there will be the opportunity to travel occasionally to San Francisco for team events.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct research studies that vary in approach, scale, scope, timeframe, and methodology that will shape our product direction.
  • Identify, prioritize, and plan studies before executing, synthesizing, and communicating findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with our Product Management, Product Design, Marketing, Data Science and Strategy teams to identify areas of improvement and feature development.
  • What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of demonstrable experience in various qualitative and/or quantitative research projects that have direct business impact.
  • Ability to independently define key research questions, identify methods and logistics, execute, and synthesize data to generate actionable insights.
  • A track record of solid pragmatic and creative thinking skills that showcase the ability to work within constraints and shifting schedules and priorities.
  • Experience with a variety of study methodologies -- such as usability tests, in-depth interviews, focus groups, ethnographies, diary studies, etc. Experience with quantitative methods is a plus.
  • Passion and curiosity for researching product experience and informing product innovation.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional peers to improve the overall experience for customers.
