We’re on a mission to mainstream Mental Fitness. To improve our core skills, reduce the risk of mental health decline and help us all to flourish. Fika is a Mental Fitness edtech start-up founded to fill a gap in our education and training system, where mental health literacy and mental fitness skills development ought to exist.

We work with businesses, healthcare and education institutes and together we are reducing the negative stigma associated with mental health and instead celebrating Mental Fitness. Fika courses help individuals to develop 7 skills of Mental Fitness; Connection, Stress, Meaning, Positivity, Focus, Motivation and Confidence, to enable them to achieve more, build resilience and have greater life satisfaction.

The role

This is a great opportunity to join a fast-paced tech start up and work autonomously but closely with Fika’s Product team. You will report directly to Fika’s Senior Product Owner and Head of Research to coordinate and plan workload and priorities.

Role and responsibilities

  • Use your experience, knowledge and the breadth of your research toolkit to define the best research method and approach for each research study, gathering insights from a variety of audiences
  • Define and write recruitment screeners
  • Approach user panel subscribers to actively recruit and schedule research sessions
  • Study design - understand what could be tested online in a remote session
  • Work with the product team to define research goals and approach
  • Design discussion guides
  • Moderate remote research sessions
  • Be able to analyse and synthesise research data, put together research summaries and/or reports with clear actionable insights
  • Communicate research findings with the team clearly and concisely; be able to debrief immediate product team or other internal teams through the use of various materials (when necessary) - video summaries, one page synthesis docs, online show and tell sessions
  • Define next steps and communicate clearly with team
  • Be comfortable in working with different team members and teams (account management, sales, psychology, etc.)
  • Work with the Product team to identify clear hypotheses and determine specific design changes and decisions
  • Work with the Product team to make changes in (or create) prototypes or wireframes before and in-between research sessions

Person specification


  • 2-3 years of professional applied UX research experience within digital
  • Proven track-record and experience with research / design of mobile apps
  • Proven track-record with working on complex research projects and programmes
  • Experience with digital design, wireframes and prototyping
  • Comfortable with operating with autonomy, in a target driven environment and reporting to key business stakeholders regularly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be confident and comfortable with a fast-paced start-up environment where requirements change quickly / often
  • Be comfortable with working on multiple research streams if/when necessary


  • Advanced degree in HCI (BSc, MSc, PhD)
  • Experience with mental health/mental fitness apps / domain
  • Experience with training / education / learning and development
  • Experience working with Figma / Sketch or a similar UX design platform
  • Experience with quantitative research methods, analysis and reporting
