As a member of our Global Digital [[}} eam, the focus of this person is to maximize the user experience on the Leica Biosystems website and eCommerce platform. This person will have both a strong customer research methodology and the ability to translate customer insights into prototypes and solution designs. In this role, you’ll interface directly with end-users, digital product developers, and business stakeholders to drive marketing and commercial impact via continuous improvement of the digital customer experience.

Some of the exciting things you’ll be doing:

  • Build, maintain, and scale a digital customer research framework. Empowered with this framework, conduct regular research activities with the end-users of our website and eCommerce platform with the goal of making their lives easier and better.
  • Research is only as good as the action that it enables. With firsthand knowledge of our customers, you integrate research into potential and actual design concepts with sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Design isn’t just the interface: you’ll also oversee the cross-disciplines of interaction design, information & content architecture, and iterative testing.
  • “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it…” which is why you’ll develop metrics and measurement approaches to help quantify improvements to user experience and how it connects to marketing & commercial KPIs.
  • Always looking to add value, you’ll focus on increasing the usability, usefulness, and desirability of our digital customer/user interactions.
  • Most importantly, the Designer of Digital Experience is a champion of the customer and a customer/user-centered culture, while also weighing the objectives and considerations of the business.

Skills that you’re solid in:

  • 1-2 years in conducting research directly with business partners and end-users/customers. More importantly, knowing how and when to deploy different research methods to best uncover the answers to your questions. These might include interviews, surveys, usability tests, A/B/N or MVT tests, or card sort exercises.
  • A strong user interface and interaction design background is critical to being able to visually communicate your vision. That’s no problem for you as you have at least 5 years of hands on experience with tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, InVision, Axure, or Balsamiq.
  • Demonstrated style guides, pattern libraries, and design systems to ensure a consistent high-quality digital experience.
  • Today customers use web platforms on a variety of devices. To keep up with the current demand, you’ve built up your cross-device research knowledge and responsive design skill.
  • You know the difference between research and interview questions, and how to speak to customers in a way to avoid biased responses.
  • As you will be regularly engaging with a diverse group of people, you will need exceptional communication, presentation, and listening skills. Knowing how to ask the right questions and offer the right ideas based on your audience is key to success.
  • As a practitioner of UX measurement, you have strong familiarity with common UX metrics such as NPS, CES, Clickstream data, and experiment conversions.
  • We move fast juggling lots of priorities. You’ll need solid project management skills and be comfortable working in both Scrum and Kanban approaches, as well more traditional PM practices, to get the job done. Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Wrike, etc. wouldn’t hurt either.

As part of this application, you also have a stellar portfolio of research and design work that you’re excited to share with us!

Bonus points and areas that you’re interested in growing in:

  • Because we work with a myriad of different systems, a demonstrated knowledge of systems design & integration goes a long way to helping you marry UX optimization with the realities of a complex technology architecture.
  • Preferred design stack experience: Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision
  • The more familiarity and hands-on work you’ve done with agile methodology, the better. This means knowing how to craft user stories and refine/groom a product backlog.
  • Workshop facilitation skills (both virtual and in-person) are always helpful, since you’ll often be herding cats to get them aligned on the right path forward. Experience with digital whiteboarding tools such as Miro are a plus.
  • You don’t need to be a developer, but any experience with web development and web standards will go a long way in helping you work across teams. This means knowing the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, accessibility standards, and other front-end related concepts.
  • If you’ve analyzed, designed, and improved eCommerce experiences, particularly B2B eCommerce, this could be a great fit.
  • The best candidates always have a passion for what they do. This role is no exception. If you’re an avid follower of industry thought leadership in the fields of user experience, human centered design, and human computer interaction, let’s talk.
