YOUR ROLE

The most important part of your responsibilities will be to bring an understanding of our users and build empathy towards their needs and challenges. You’ll gather insight into their behaviors, motivations, and goals to inform and strengthen product and design decisions.You’ll collaborate with product designers and product managers to conduct research.

The role will involve on-site travel to learn about users in their settings.

THE THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead strategic user research initiatives that span multiple product categories.
  • Travel to customer on-site locations which will involve learning about users in their setting through workshops, focus groups, whiteboard sessions, user interviews and testing.
  • Conduct problem validation user research projects within your product category and engage Product Managers for collaboration
  • Respond to solution validation user research inquiries escalated by Design Managers.
  • Demonstrate, explain, and teach others how to apply a range of research methods, understanding the balance and trade-offs in just enough research.
  • Actively seek out difficult obstacles to our efficiency as a team (process, tooling, etc.) and propose and implement solutions that will enable the entire team to work more efficiently.
  • Evangelize UX research. Share user insights with the broader organization to increase user empathy and an understanding of their problems.
  • Identify research training needs for Designers and Product Managers.
  • Work with other UX Researchers to design and deliver training content and workshops.
  • Engage in social media efforts, including writing blog articles, etc.
  • Creating Research Study Plans and securing research participants and collecting data.
  • Synthesizing findings and communicating results.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the direction and vision for your product category.
  • Have a working knowledge of the end-to-end product.
  • Respond to solution validation user research inquiries escalated by Design Managers.
  • Grow and develop your research skills with senior UX researchers.
  • Actively contribute to UX Research processes, documentation and repositories.
  • Foundational Research: Contextual Inquiries, User Interviews, Workshops, Affinity Diagrams, Card Sorting, Information Architecture.
  • Evaluative Research: User Script Testing, A/B Testing, Concept Testing, Cognitive Walkthroughs, User Analytics, Surveys.
  • Ability to Sketch Journey Maps, Storyboards, Workflows, Decision Algorithms, Low-fi Wireframes, etc. in Figma/Miro
  • Draft findings, recommendations, and reports based on user research.
  • Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written and oral presentations.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the direction and vision for your product category.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Roughly 6-7 years of experience conducting user research, preferably in the technology industry.
  • A record of having an impact on products with research activities.
  • Ability to lead workshops, focus groups, whiteboard sessions and interviews (both remote and on-site)
  • Experience with Cloud Software.
  • Experience with a broad range of research methodologies (usability studies, interviews, surveys, card sorting, etc.).
  • Experience generating multi-quarter research plans.
  • Ability to define and track user experience metrics.
  • Coordinating work on multiple products/releases.
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic about working in a complex product space with ambiguous challenges.
  • Ability to effectively communicate rich customer data and articulate the implications of research findings in clear and compelling ways.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within tight timelines and with excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to scope and estimate efforts accurately and prioritize tasks independently.
  • A high-quality portfolio review presentation is required to interview for this role. Your presentation should demonstrate your research experience, the rationale for the methodologies chosen, and communication skills.

Skill/Experience/Education

  • Bachelor of Science / Master of Science in Human Factors, Psychology, HCI, or other field emphasizing human behavior and research studies
  • 6+ years of work experience in user research / related fields.
  • Tools: Experience with Mixpanel, Figma, Miro, Dovetail, Airtable, G-Suite & Confluence
  • Experience conducting research with Cloud Software and SaaS
  • Experience with two or more of the following methods: usability studies, concept tests, benchmarks, diary studies, user interviews, analytics, and surveys.
  • Understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply which of them during each product phase.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to work independently on a variety of tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly to turn around high-quality research insights.
  • Can prioritize time between multiple projects, and be flexible, adapting to changing schedules and different projects
